At Holy Cross Preschool at St. Mary and Holy Cross Academy, your child will be surrounded by dedicated, caring teachers and staff members who are concerned with your child’s wellbeing. Our faculty promotes the whole child and will partner with you to help your child to grow and mature spiritually, academically, emotionally and physically.
Our faculty and staff will lead your child to grow in his or her relationship with Christ and knowledge of the faith. Your children will participate actively in our school liturgies and our Catholic traditions. For our students who are not Catholic, we will encourage them to learn all about their faith as well and to participate actively in their church communities.
We believe that the success of our school is best measured by the students who graduate from Holy Cross Academy. We are justifiably proud of our graduates. Each year, we have a significant number of students, typically over 10% of our graduating class, who apply to and are accepted into Governor’s School. Over 80% of our outgoing 8th graders are placed in honors or advanced courses when they go on to high school. Many of our 8th graders take Algebra I here at HCA and pass the SOL easily as freshman. Students who have applied themselves to the study of Spanish are able to go into Spanish II or III upon entering high school.
Our area high schools are always happy to receive our graduates. They know that they have a solid academic background, that their English and Mathematical skills are strong and that they have good study habits. More importantly, our graduates demonstrate exemplary citizenship, integrity, compassion and leadership as they move forward. We are confident that our Holy Cross Academy graduates are making a difference in our community.
Our academic program is strong as is demonstrated by the success of our graduates and our above average standardized test scores. Each year, we evaluate and update textbooks, teaching methods and classroom materials. At Holy Cross Academy we believe that we must continually renew and revitalize our academic program in order to provide our students with the best education possible.
We are blessed by a group of dynamic, dedicated professionals who are making a difference daily in our children’s lives. Holy Cross Academy’s faculty is composed of certified teachers, including a librarian, resource teacher, computer specialist, and teachers in Spanish, art, music and physical education, as well as five classroom assistants. We have a full-time counselor and a part-time school nurse. We have a trained kitchen staff that makes lunch from scratch daily.
Our extracurricular offerings are constantly growing. They include athletics for our Middle School students: field hockey, soccer, volleyball, lacrosse, and basketball. We offer keyboarding lessons beginning in the 3rd grade and chorus beginning in 5th grade. Our drama club is open to all ages. Our academic extracurricular activities include the Battle of the Books, Art Club, and Chess Club. We have Scouts for boys and girls at all levels.
Students are provided with many opportunities to develop their leadership skills, most notably in Scouts, Student Council, National Junior Honor Society and Young Catholics Service Group.
